Relationship Maintenance Tips by Orlando Marriage Counselor

Most people desire to have and maintain a happy healthy relationship but have not stopped to consider what is required to make it happen. Studies show that sixty-six percent of Americans who desire to have a happy relationship also have the desire to maintain it.  How to achieve this goal is often challenging. What can individuals do to achieve and maintain great relationship maintenance? There are times when a party feels he or she is doing the right thing but the desired results can still be elusive.

After a breakup with a significant other or close friend feelings of rejection and guilt can be overwhelming.  The question often asked is where did we go wrong? What did I do to cause this? Did I do enough to give the relationship a chance to succeed? Most times the other party is blamed for the abrupt ending of the relationship. Whatever the perceived cause, it is critical for each party to undertake a careful evaluation of their role based on the following three questions: Did I work, play and love passionately?

  1. You must work at improving the relationship in an unselfish, collaborative manner and be open to making adjustments as the need arises.

  2. You must schedule a time to appreciate and enjoy each other’s company as friends and partners in life.

  3. You must love genuinely through effective, non-threatening communication.

Great relationships demand frequent check-ups to ensure that the doses of these three ingredients are present in the measure that is mutually acceptable. Just as we take time for medical check-ups and follow through on any remedial recommendations, the same vigilance is required to safeguard the welfare of important relationships.

When we do these three things consistently, they produce happy, healthy, and lasting relationships.
