Orlando Counselor on Dangers of Spring Break
Spring break provides a time of relaxation and stress-free fun. With all this, there are some risk factors to be aware of, so to ensure you have the best time, follow these tips.
- Alcohol:
During spring break there is a high amount of alcohol-related injuries and deaths. It’s important to regulate your drinking and space out drinks. 50% of men and women blackout, leaving them vulnerable to sexual assaults or alcohol poisoning.
- Transportation:
If you or a loved one is choosing to drink, while on vacation, it is important to have a designated driver. If that is not a possible option, it’s important to get an Uber or Lyft ride. It’s important to get the license plate numbers of Uber’s for safety reasons.
- Dating Safety:
Spring break is also a time of dating and romance, so it’s important to do research on your prospective partner. This could mean doing a background check, as well as meeting in a public place. If it is a date from a dating app, be sure to meet them for the date, and do not get into the car with them. Make sure their profile matches who they actually are. When going on dates, remember to tell friends your location and maybe even share a picture of who you are going to meet.
In addition to this, do not drink alcohol on any first dates because this person is still virtually a stranger, and alcohol can lead to a sexual assault.
- Sun Protection:
It’s important to carry sunscreen and stay hydrated while on vacation. Many spring breakers choose to come to places like Florida to enjoy, where the sun is very strong. Proper sunscreen and attire will be needed to avoid a bad burn.
Stay safe, have fun, and stay hydrated!
